Shanann Watts’ Family Opens Probate Matter

I was recently interviewed on Fox 31 News about the heartbreaking tragedy involving Shanann Watts. Her husband has been arrested for her murder. If he is convicted of or pleads guilty to that murder, a question will likely arise as to who is entitle to receive her assets. Ms. Watts died without a will, but, in the event he is found liable for her death, either criminally or civilly, Colorado’s “Slayer Statute” will prevent her husband from receiving any assets passing as a result of her death. That statute ensures that people do not benefit by committing murder.
